Bridge Q & A

Dental BridgeWhat is a dental bridge?

Dental bridges replace missing or damaged teeth by bridging the gap that the teeth left. Bridges are held in place by crowns on other teeth or with dental implants.

Several types of dental bridges exist, but because Dr. Quagliata uses the latest technology, she suggests the newest and most stable dental bridge available using the CEREC ® system. The CEREC system allows you to leave the office after one visit with your new bridge.

What happens when I get a dental bridge?

Dr. Quagliata first makes you feel comfortable with a local anesthetic. She uses a drill and files to remove the damaged part of the tooth and prepares adjacent teeth to hold your new bridge. If you’re opting for dental implants to hold your bridge in place, she preps your gums for implants by cleaning them and ensuring your anesthetic has not worn off too soon.

The crowns and bridge are made in the office based on digital impressions of your teeth. Once the pieces are in place, Dr. Quagliata shapes and contours the replacement teeth for the best match of your other teeth. You leave the office with a brand new smile.

How long will I have to wait for my dental bridge to be complete?

You can leave the office the same day with your new bridge. At SMYLIQUE Dentistry, you receive a 3D digital impression of your teeth, which Dr. Quagliata uses to create perfectly shaped replacement teeth.

She uses computer-aided design (CAD) and computer aided manufacturing (CAM) for same-day crowns and bridges. The replacement teeth and bridge piece are made using the CEREC® system. This new, no-wait option allows you to walk out of the office the same day with all you need.

How long does a dental bridge last?

Dental bridges can last for more than 15 years, possibly longer. With proper oral hygiene — such as brushing and flossing and routine checkups with Dr. Quagliata at SMYLIQUE Dentistry — your smile continues to look radiant and complete for many years. Ask Dr. Quagliata for additional ways to care for your new bridge and crowns.
